One of the oldest and largest fraternal organization is in the world is Freemasonry. This group is nonpolitical, nonreligious, and charitable, according to the website of the United Grand Lodge of England.
Freemasonry is popular all throughout England and Wales, as well as other districts overseas. One of my friends who are movers in Odenton, has descendants had ties back to being a freemason. In fact, there are more than 7000 lodges in those countries with over 200,000 members. According to the Freemason website, there are around ask million Freemasons worldwide. Some of the more high-profile Freemasons include Prince Philip, Edward III, George VI, King Edward VII, Lord Kitchener, the Duke of Wellington, and Winston Churchill.
The Grand Lodge, located in London’s Covent Gardens, is where the Freemason’s governing body for Wales, England, and the Channel Islands is located in the Freemasons’ Hall. The United grand Lodge of England website claims that the group teaches self-knowledge. This is taught through dissipating in ceremonies. They also consider themselves a society of men focused on spiritual and moral values. The Freemasons call one another brothers because they believe everyone is equal. Their goal is to turn themselves into better men. Freemasons climb the hierarchy ladder by doing charitable work. Their traditional regalia they wear indicates their rank within the organization.
Only men can become a Freemason. You must be an adult over the age of 21. Freemasons expect all members to have a faith, but admit men regardless of their religion, economic standing, political views, or ethnic group. There are also University lodges that can be joined by men over 18 years of age.
To join a Freemason Lodge, you would first find your local Lodge and talk with someone about your interest in joining. After that, all candidates must participate in a couple rites of initiation that are highly secretive. These are called, “Knight Of The Rosy Cross” and “Heredom of Kilwinning”. New members must pay a fee to enter and an annual subscription as well.
